Track

1980, Swarthmore College, Site-Work: Sculpture Installation and Discussion, Swarthmore, PA.

From end to end, Track lengthens 280 feet diagonally across one side of a secluded field, near the banks of a meandering brook. Comprised of ten sets of geometric groupings embedded in the earth, each set shares a constant linear element, paired with a variable parallel and perpendicular configuration. High above the brook, a railroad bridge is partially visible through the trees at the northern terminus of Track. (See photograph in the last row to the right.) Visualizing a railway system stretching indeterminately across the elevated bridge abstractly expands Track far beyond the boarders of the field, and provides the title for the site-specific work.
