1995 to 2002 was a period of painting in response to a range of personal and public motivations and stimuli. Among the works, The Unfurling is a response to the September 11th attack, 2001. The left panel of the triptych holds a tangled pattern of red and blue against a tarnished white field, juxtaposed with a center and right panel randomly filled with splinters of light and blurred overlays of cascading sullen washes.
Another painting titled American Berserk, is an abstracted visualization of coming of age during a contentious period in American history. A group of four Book paintings from 1997 express a poetic interpretation of illuminated manuscripts.
