Paintings: 1983-1985

1983-1985 was a period of transition from sculpture to painting.  The diagrammatic drawing and planning processes used to organize sculpture installations and an emergent interest in color signaled a shift to painting.  The paintings from this phase interpret recollections of ancient architectural ruins, incorporate I Ching hexagrams, and explore the emotive and expressive content of color. The painting Who Is, Who is Afraid, Who is Afraid Of is an homage to Barnett Newman’s Who is Afraid of Red, Yellow, and Blue series.
