Kaum-Umbü

1983, Mattress Factory Museum of Contemporary Art, Pittsburgh PA

Memory of standing and walking through ancient Egyptian Temples at Al Uqsur, Insä, Idfü and Kaum-Umbü was the impetus for a site-specific installation in the post-industrial inner sanctum of the Mattress Factory.  Weight and gravity, support and suspension, color and texture in contrast or correlation with the brute architecture of the dark interior space determine the form and configuration of Kaum-Umbü.
