Isis: 2007–2019

Adhering to a strategy of applying black and white over color, the Isis works began as a multi-part installation of five interrelated paintings.  The sequential spelling of the ancient Egyptian goddess, Isis, was the title source for this body of work.  The cyclic typography I-s-I-s graphically expresses qualities of geometry and gesture in varied works that wander in dimension, may have multiple elements, and often employ diverse mixed media and unorthodox painting techniques.

Over thousands of years and translations into multiple languages the omnipotent deity’s name has taken many forms to the known version today.  In antiquity she had magical powers, and was the friend to artisans, sinners, and slaves.  The series continues with the single panel painting, Isis 6.
